Feeling outrage may help lose weight

According to a new study by researchers at Pennsylvania, Duke and Colorado universities, Feeling outrage might help people lose weight, Daily Mail reports.

For this study the researchers showed non-French speakers a film in French. Half were told the film was about an incestuous relationship, while the others thought it was just a conventional romance. Then all the participants were given a chocolate milk drink.

This small study showed that those who believed they were viewing an incest film drank around a third less – 110 grams compared to 147 grams. So the researchers thought that when people are disgusted by immoral acts, their appetite wanes.

“Exposure to moral violations reduces [food] consumption, and highlights a psychological truth in the metaphorical observation that moral violations “leave a bad taste” in one’s mouth,” said Cindy Chan, one of the authors of this study.

“People may consume less coffee while reading the Sunday paper’s exposé of corporate fraud, a violation of ethical business practices,” she added.
